Let us know you’ll be there! We want it to be a full house to show just how important protecting Mount Nemo is to our community.
Premier Ford, Listen to the People—Stop the Mt. Nemo & Campbellville Quarries!
Join the Reform Gravel Mining Coalition, CORE Burlington & ACTION Milton on Saturday, January 25 from 1:30 - 3:30pm (doors open at 1:00pm), at a rally to demand Premier Ford and MPP Zee Hamid fulfill their promise to stop the proposed Mt. Nemo and Campbellville mega-quarries
Four brave mayors are standing with their communities to stop dangerous mega-quarries that threaten public health, along with the water and farmland we all depend on. Let’s stand with them, and stand up for the right of all communities to stop greedy corporations from hauling our future away!
These quarries are unwanted—the mayors and voters of Milton and Burlington already rejected them.
These quarries are unneeded—the multinational aggregate industry already has a nearly 40-year surplus of building materials.
These quarries are unsafe—the Auditor General found the province is not adequately protecting the public from the negative impacts of gravel mining, including carcinogenic air pollution from PM 2.5 dust.
These quarries are unjust— Premier Ford and MPP Zee Hamid promised to stop them, yet the approvals process continues, costing municipalities and ratepayers millions.
In 2020, Premier Ford made a promise to Milton residents to stop the Campbellville quarry, saying: “I believe in governing for the people and when the people don’t want something, you don’t do it. It’s very simple. I know the mayor doesn’t want it. No one wants it. I don’t want it. We’re going to make sure it doesn’t happen one way or another.”
During the 2023 by-election, MPP Zee Hamid also promised to stop the Mt. Nemo mega-quarry expansion in Burlington, saying: “I voted against the Nelson Quarry expansion in the Regional Council and I continue to be against it. If I am your MPP, I’ll fight with the community to make sure it’s not expanded.”
