“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.”
- Margaret Mead
When a quarry threatens your community, there’s only one thing to do—fight it!
Nelson Aggregate has applied for permission to destroy 124 more acres of irreplaceable Niagara Escarpment land. This new quarry would not only threaten the health and safety of the local community, but also destroy critical habitat for the many species that call the Niagara Escarpment home, including the endangered Jefferson Salamander.
So we started a non-profit to fight the good fight! We’re a group of dedicated volunteers who are uniting the voice of Burlington residents and building a strong case against Nelson Aggregate’s proposed expansion.
As a community, we’ve said NO QUARRY, the Region of Halton has said NO QUARRY, the City of Burlington has said NO QUARRY, and the Niagara Escarpment Commission has said NO Quarry!! Every voice in this fight counts, and we hope that you will join us in yelling out NO QUARRY! Together, we’ll be challenging the application to quarry these 124 acres of Prime Agricultural Land (or the Niagara Escarpment or Mount Nemo) at the Ontario Land Tribunal.
In the meantime, we have to build our case with lawyers and technical experts. This means you’ll likely see us out raising money through running local markets and other seasonal fundraisers. We’d love if you’d come out, meet the crew, and support us in any way you can. We’re working hard, and the best interest of the community is at the heart of everything we do. If you’d love to connect with great people doing great things, we invite you to get in touch with us; we’re looking forward to meeting you!
